These are some our Clubs best Jeeping Camping wild adventures on and off the road: Joel German Davis Area Technical College, DATC Another bright and early morning as many as 40 off road enthusiasts prepare their rigs for the Annual Datc Off road & 4X4 Show and as always Big Sarge was there to keep things loud. It is an annual event that drives people clear from Southern Utah to come show off their rigs in a friendly competition to see who has dumped the most time, money, and effort in to their built rigs . This year, and many other years, the judging was done by whom else but the Wasatch Outlaw Wheelers, a local off road club out of Ogden Utah. These judges were split into the three different areas of judging: Daily Driver, Trail Rig, and Competition. Each of which was judged differently.
There were some very good looking vehicles at this show which show the kind of quality craftsmen ship that go into peoples rigs, but there is always that exceptional few. One rig that a lot of people may not have noticed was a certain little CJ7 that had so much work done to it that it was unbelievable. If you looked closely under the hood you would find the motor out of a Jeep Cherokee, a 4.0ltr, and all of the fuel injection wired up. Also one thing that you wouldn’t notice unless the owner told you is that the dash has been wired up to work with the new steering column and motor swap. Talk about quality work.
One of the other crazy things I noticed at this years show was something I don’t think I have ever seen before, a Dodge Durango. Now this was not just any other Durango, it had a Ford engine under the hood and a solid axel swap in the front. After talking with the owner, he said he was still not done with this project, as it still needed a rear bumper and a lot of bodywork. These are just some of the crazy innovations Utahans alike are coming up with.
One of the other awards that was given was Best in Show, which was given to Sky’s Extreme Off Road for their custom built Jeep Grand Cherokee. If you look at all the detail that was put into this Jeep it makes you wonder, “who in their right mind would take this jeep off road?” One of the cool things that you will notice is all of the skulls put through out the paint job, they even painted the winch! The Daily Driver Award was given to one of the other members of Sky’s Extreme Off Road for their Daily Driver Jeep Unlimited Rubicon, which had all the goodies and even with an eight-inch lift it still retained its street able use. The interior was fully caged and had onboard air in the back. To top off the list they also took home the Competition Buggy award home. Either these guys were paying the judges or they have a lot of nice quality work.
The Trail Rig award was given to the owner of a Nicely built Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. This jeep was sitting on 37” tall tires and had nth degree suspension to jack it up. Slight things I noticed on this jeep were the louvers cut out in the hood for extra cooling and the small transmission cooler added in front of the radiator. Hope to see this jeep on the trail soon.
These are just some of the Vehicles that attended this year and there were plenty more incredible rigs that were not mentioned. A big thanks goes out to the Datc and its Diesel Instructors for holding this event. Don’t forget to Tread Lightly!
I like it.
Nice color, Red Jeeps Rule.
Yellow Jeeps, this one is nice, I think it won it's category in 2005. (It beat my Jeep in the Daily driver category, I was 3rd, this one was 1st or 2nd)
In progress but looking good.
Buggies are always cool, This one is way to clean.
Wow I think that is Sarge behind that Beard, no too sure, kids watchout,
Cool fabrication work on the front protection and winch mount.
Once the hood goes up, you know things are getting serious.
Yellow Smiley Guy's like Jeeps
Nice set of rigs here.
Here you can see the RTI Trailer.
Nice Shocks.
