Utah 4 Wheel Drive Association Spring Trail Ride

When; May 5th 2007

Where; Kanab, Ut

Trails for all levels of vehicles and drivers

We will have a dinner and fund raiser drawing at the Kaneplex after the rides

$10.00 for the dinner, no charge for the trails

Lots of good prizes at the drawing, you won't have to be there to win

We are meeting at the Kaneplex, which is on the south side of Kanab. Lots of parking and camping will be available there. Be sure to come back after the trail rides for the dinner and drawing.

An information packet will be sent out to everyone who pre-registers with location maps and any other information you may need.

This year we will require participants to pre-register. You MUST request the trail you wish to take when you pre-register. All trails have limits on the number of vehicles and when the trail is filled, no more will be allowed on that trail. U4WDA members will be given first chance on all trails. Only if the vehicle limit is not filled will non-U4WDA members be considered.

Trails

1. Harris Mountain/ Elephant Cove 2 to 2 1/2 rating

Scenic fun drive that will take you by the Coral Pink Sand Dunes and over Harris Mountain and on through the Elephant Cove Area. Very scenic area with great views in all directions. This trail is suitable for stock vehicles. It can be sandy in some places. It's usually a good idea to run lower than normal air pressure in your tires

2. Hog Canyon, Pinnacles/ Big Hill Trail 3 rating

Sand Hill, Rock Ledges, Slickrock. varied terrain. Great views of the white cliffs to the north. A stock vehicle can do this trail, but it is preferable to have at least one locker. At least 31" tires recommended. The Big Hill towards the end of this trail is a very steep, loose dirt climb with a turn right in the worst spot. Some vehicles can make it up the hill with only one locker, but if you can't it's no problem, a lot of rigs get winched up this hill.

3. Hog Canyon, Savage Point Trail 3 1/2 rating

A lot of different terrain on this trail. Steep loose dirt climbs, Slickrock, sand, ledges and fins. This trail goes out to Savage Point where you are looking down on the Kanab golf course. The last part of this trail is narrow and brushy and is not friendly with full size vehicles or new paint jobs. This trail is a fun one with lots of challenges but not so difficult that a moderately built rig can't handle it. Beautiful views in all directions, especially south looking out over the Arizona Strip. At least one locker and 31" tires recommended.

4. Hog Canyon, Tom's Canyon Trail 4 rating

This is a fun one. Side hills, a very steep slippery descent, waterfalls, loose dirt climbs and a very steep climb up some slickrock ledges. This is a short but difficult trail that turns off the main Hog Canyon trail and joins it again at the end so you can continue on to other areas in Hog Canyon. Again, great views, you cut across the top part of Tom's Canyon looking down into the town of Kanab. You must have at least one locker for this trail, two lockers is preferable. 33" or over tires recommended. Breakdowns are common on this trail, with broken axles being the most common.

5. The Maze, Hurricane Sand Dunes 4 1/2 to 5 rating

This one is for the built rigs that want to play on the rocks. A local guide will take a group out on the trails near Sand Hollow State Park and show you some challenging trails the area has to offer. Two lockers and a minimum of 35" tires are required for this trail. Expect breakdowns and body damage.
