These are some our Clubs best Jeeping Camping wild adventures on and off the road: Wasatch Outlaw Wheelers Fall Trail Run Millville Canyon Utah, October 2005The Ogden Utah Wasatch Outlaw Wheelers Tackle Millville Canyon, in the Fall on October 30th 2005.Here's are a few pictures of some serious trail fun, we ran into snow at the top of the hill.
Millville Canyon is rated 3-3.5 on the Utah 4x4 Scale of 0 to 4+. When we encountered the trail it had just snowed about 6-8 inches. The trail is one of the main routes into the Wasatch Cache National Forest near Logan Utah. The trail rises from the valley floor to the top of the Mount Logan Peak at 10,000 feet. The valley floor sits at about 4500 feet, so the trail has a number of nice elevation gains. The group started out small here are a few of the members of the club lined up and excited to go. Ian in his RedJeep, Larry in his Bronco II, Joel in his Jeep XJ Cherokee, and Jeff in his Full sized Bronco. Here you see "Crazy Larry" gets a bit tippy, you should have seen the way he powered out of this little rut, he popped a wheelie about 5 feet high. From this angle it looks like he may never recover, but no paint was harmed in this little stretch of trail. Big Broncos aren't afraid of a little rut. What an nice clear clean crisp and cold day. The kids in the back of this Bronco were ready for the warm tow rig at the end of the end. Larry's Bronco II posing in the sun. L Here the RedJeep stands ready to go. This section of the road was where the fun really started, The snow was cold and pilled up. We all made it to the top. The pictures don't really give justice to the elevation gain at this point. This is a nice wide meadow at the top of the ridge. Making our way over the river and through the woods. At this point we were slowed by some snowy muddy mud. What is next? In this picture you can clearly see the little red Bronco II pushing the big orange Bronco with a tow ttrap. Here's even more proof that Bronco II's can push big Bronco's. Here is the excitement shown by Larry as he pushes Jeff's big orange Bronco with a tow strap. Look at the nice frosty covering on the pine trees in the background. WOW. Here you see Paul Hansen, a VP in the RedJeepClub inspecting this RedJeep for approval. What we have here is a failure to communicate between the rubber and the rim. Spinning Donuts in the snow at 8 psi is a good reason to have bead locks. As I inspect the damage I realize the the on-board air system won't fix this one. It's time to change it. "Guy's ummm, I have a flat tire here, can I get a little help? Anyone? Bueller? anyone, help?" I'm just kidding, they all stood and around a laughed, as I changed the tire, no problem. Here we are poised at the base of Providence Canyon, after we made out decent. The Millville Canyon Trail, loops up to the top of Mount Logan and intersects with the Providence Canyon trail. The Providence Canyon trail is a more direct route to the Peak, but it is rate about 4 on the 0 to 4+ scale. It is even more fun with some snow on it.
